2 struck in separate incidents in Yorkville

By News Staff

Two people, a pedestrian and a cyclist, were seriously injured after being struck in separate incidents in Yorkville, minutes apart from each.

A 54-year-old man suffered head trauma and possibly life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle around 1 a.m. at Avenue Road and Webster Avenue.

Police originally said the driver involved fled the scene at a high rate of speed, but later clarified that he remained on the scene.

Around 30 minutes later, a cyclist was struck by a vehicle near Bloor and Yonge Streets. The victim was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

This incident was also reported by police as a hit-and-run, but police now say the driver remained on the scene.

Toronto police say even thought the two locations are around a 10 minute walk from each other, they do not believe the incidents are related.
