New music Friday: Top picks for July 26

Fridays are always a great day for music lovers as not only does it mark the last workday for many in the week but it’s also the day where most artists release new music. Here is a look at some of the releases out the week of July 26:

Meghan Patrick

Back-to-back CCMA Female Artist of the Year winner Meghan Patrick released an acoustic performance video of her new single “Wild as Me”.

“Some of my favorite versions of my favorite songs are stripped down and acoustic and I think there’s something special about hearing a song the way it was created. This song means so much to me, I wanted to share it with you in this way. We recorded this live off the floor at Revolution Recording studio in Toronto, I hope y’all love it!”

Robbie Robertson

Legendary musician Robbie Robertson is getting set to release his highly anticipated new solo album “Sinematic.”

“I was working on music for ‘The Irishman’ and working on the documentary, and these things were bleeding into each other.” Robertson told CityNews.

The 13-song-self produced collection is his first new studio album since his 2011 album How To Become Clairvoyant. The lead single is called “I Hear You Paint Houses” and features Van Morrison.

Alessia Cara

Brampton’s music darling and 2018’s “Best New Artist” Grammy award-winning Canadian singer/songwriter surprised fans earlier in the week with her new song “Ready” off her of upcoming EP out September 6.

“”Caught the writing bug out of the blue and made an EP. It’s called THIS SUMMER. I’ll be releasing a new track every couple of weeks until it’s release” Cara said about her new tunes.

Tegan And Sara

Tegan and Sara released their first single, “I’ll Be Back Someday,” off of their upcoming album “Hey, I’m Just Like You.” The sisters will also be releasing their first memoir, “High School” that will be released out on September 24

Marcus Haran

Toronto-based Sri Lankan Refugee Marcus Haran Released his new song “HBSL (Hot Boy from Sri Lanka)”. It is the new single ahead of his sophomore release.

“Despite being stereotyped all over the world, ‘HBSL (Hot Boy from Sri Lanka)’ is a representation of the beauty and glamour of Sri Lanka,” Haran said in a press release.

Bishop Briggs

Arkells fans are already familiar with Bishop Briggs as she was part of their massive show at Tim Hortons field last summer. But, the UK singer has been making headlines for years and now is getting more traction with her new song “Tattooed On My Heart.” The song follows her release of the song “Champion,” which became the number one most added song to alternative radio.

“I have lots of tattoos – too many to count. I have tattoos that remind me of him or tattoos we got together but I truly don’t regret any of them. Seeing them on my body brings back countless memories and lessons – they’re reminders of my being,” said Briggs

Bishop Briggs has two Canadian stops on her upcoming tour. She will be at the Danforth Music Hall in Toronto on October 11 and at Club Soda in Montreal on October 12.

Who Was On Top?

The number 1 album in Canada this week? It goes to a Brit. Ed Sheeran’s “No.6 Collaboration Project” was number one in the country this week. The album features Canuck Justin Bieber and 22 other collaborators.
