Whitby man arrested for allegedly ramming police vehicles while fleeing officers

Durham regional police have arrested and charged a Whitby man for allegedly fleeing police officers and ramming three police vehicles.

Police said a wanted man was spotted driving a car in the area of Brock Street North and Taunton Road East in Whitby on Tuesday.

“Officers attempted to box in the vehicle with both marked and non-marked cruisers. He rammed the three cruisers and fled the area at a high rate of speed,” police said in a release.

Police managed to get the man to pull over after reaching him on his cellphone. He was then arrested, police said.

Daniel Varcoe, 35, has been charged 40 offences ranging from flight from police while being pursued, theft under $5,000 to the operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, police said.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
