Driver flees after car reported stolen crashes into hydro pole midtown

A vehicle flipped over on its side after hitting a hydro pole in midtown Toronto Saturday morning.

Police responded to a collision in the Merton Street and Mount Pleasant Road area around 8 a.m.

A single vehicle crashed into the pole, bringing down wires. The driver of the vehicle then got out and fled the scene.

Police said the vehicle was reported stolen and charges are expected to be laid.

Toronto Hydro was on scene to repair the damage.

Mount Pleasant was blocked in both directions for the cleanup but has since reopened.
