1st human case this year of West Nile virus in Toronto reported: Public Health

The city has reported its first case of West Nile virus in a human this year, Toronto Public Health has confirmed.
The case was lab-confirmed in an adult resident in Toronto.
The virus is transmitted to people through a bite from an infected mosquito. Symptoms usually develop within two to 14 days and can include a fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, body aches, skin rash and swollen lymph glands.
Public Health says the risk of getting infected still remains low, but recommends taking precautions to avoid getting bitten.
There were 39 confirmed cases of West Nile in humans in 2018 and 40 positive mosquito tests reported to Public Health.
