A 32-year-old Milton man is under arrest in connection with a series of sexual assaults involving young girls in the Waterloo region over a six year period.

Police say the first incident occurred back on October 20, 2013 when a four-year-old girl was playing hide-and-seek with a group of kids when she went inside an apartment building on Barrie Street for a drink of water and was allegedly sexually assaulted in a stairwell.

Investigators say the suspect struck again on October 27, 2017 when a six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted in the landing between the second and third floors of an apartment building on Patricia Avenue, approximately seven kilometres from the first incident four years earlier.

Police say the third incident occurred on July 6, 2019 when a man approached a four-year-old girl and allegedly sexually assaulted her while playing in the common area of an apartment building on Brybeck Crescent in Kitchener.

Insp. Mark Crowell says the suspect, identified as Timi Gusak, was arrested at a home in Milton on Thursday and has been charged with three counts of sexual assault and three counts of sexual interference.

“We believe this was an unknown offender to all the victims,” Crowell said.

Crowell said the man lived in the Waterloo region during the 2013 and 2017 incidents and that he has “personal connections” to the area. Crowell said the man lived in Milton at the time of the 2019 incident.

Police have not released the name of the individual but say DNA evidence has linked the suspect to all three assaults.

Crowell said investigators aren’t ruling out the possibility that the accused could be linked to more alleged sexual assaults.

“Although we are confident that the person responsible for these incidents has been arrested, we continue to investigate further and we encourage anyone with additional information to please come forward,” he said.
