Peel police make arrest in 2018 murder of Mississauga woman

Peel regional police have charged a man with first-degree murder in the December 2018 death of an elderly Mississauga woman.

Police were called to a home in the Cawthra Road and Silver Creek Boulevard area on December 21, just before 10 p.m.

When they arrived they found an unresponsive woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was later identified as 83-year-old Mary Araujo.

Police said she was showing signs of trauma and an investigation commenced.

On Monday, police arrested Alexander Bates, 47, of Mississauga. He’s facing a charge of first-degree murder.

Bates is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
