SIU investigating after man dies in Mississauga

Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a man died in Mississauga Sunday morning.

Peel Regional Police say they were called for a report of a man in distress in regards to a domestic situation around 10 a.m. to Edgeleigh Avenue.

The Special investigations Unit says prior to the arrival of police, a 27-year-old man left the residence. He was later found in the backyard of a residence on Ogden Avenue.

While officers were present, the man sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No officer discharged a firearm, according to the SIU.

No further details have been given.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
