Sherbourne bike lanes to be unavailable until November for construction work

By News Staff

Cyclists who use the dedicated bike lanes along Sherbourne Street will have to find alternatives as the city embarks on construction work on the busy downtown roadway.

In a release the City of Toronto said Sherbourne Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Carlton Street and Bloor Street East starting September 3 and stretching into November.

The bike lanes will be unavailable and cyclists will have to find alternative routes or be forced to share the single north and southbound lanes with vehicles as crews work to resurface the road and repair sections of damaged curb and sidewalk.

There will also be no parking on Sherbourne Street between Carlton Street and Bloor Street East.

The work will take place Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., with some work after hours and on the weekend for paving operations, the city said.

Local businesses along Sherbourne will remain open but TTC service will be impacted.
