Southwestern municipality remains in state of emergency after flooding

A southwestern Ontario municipality remains in a state of emergency as the community anticipates another storm next week that could bring more flooding.
About a dozen homes in Chatham-Kent, Ont., were damaged and some residents were evacuated on Tuesday following strong winds and high water levels along the shoreline of Lake Erie.
The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority has said about 40 homes were voluntarily evacuated in the Erie Shore Drive area.
A statement from the municipality says the shoreline has been reinforced since then and some repairs have been made as the community braces for another round of severe weather that could come after the long weekend.
Strong winds and high waves in Lake Erie were expected Thursday night, but the municipality says the storm passed through without any major incidents and no injuries were reported.
However, the area is being monitored and emergency services will remain on stand-by.
