End of summer dog swim held at public pools before they close

While the dog days of summer are winding down, Toronto's dogs had their day in the sun as some outdoor municipal pools allowed pups to take a dip before they closed for the season. Erica Natividad and Luna with the annual end-of-summer tradition.

It was a “pawsome” day at some public pools in Toronto, as the city allowed dogs to go for a dip before the facilities close for the summer.

The City of Toronto hosted a swim for dogs at 10 outdoor public pools Sunday afternoon.

Dog owners over the age of 18 were allowed to bring their furry friends for a dip at around 4 p.m.

Jane Arbour with the city’s parks, forestry and recreation department says the event has been running for several years, but has grown in popularity and expanded city-wide.

“We know Torontonians love their dogs,” Arbour said.

“This is just a really fun way to close the outdoor pool season in the city.”

Dog owners were also encouraged to bring their pet’s favourite toy, as well they were encouraged to make a donation to Toronto Animal Services.
