Fire severely damages abandoned historic home

By News Staff

An abandoned historic home on Jarvis Street has been severely damaged following a fire late Sunday night.

Toronto Fire Services said crews responded to a report of a working fire at a home near Jarvis and Carlton streets at around 11:40 p.m.

Both the first and second floors were fully engulfed when they arrived. Toronto Fire says crews then began a defensive operation.

The main body of the blaze was put out at around 12:30 a.m. Monday and there were no reports of injuries.

A nearby Ryerson University student residence was temporarily evacuated during the incident, but the residents have since been allowed to return.

Platoon Chief Kevin Shaw said this is the third time they’ve been called to this particular location for a fire.

Fire officials continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.
