Police make arrest after Vaughan business shot at following threat

York regional police have arrested a man who allegedly shot up a Vaughan business after threatening one of its employees.

Police say they were called to a plaza at Rutherford Road and Highway 400 just after 5 p.m. on Friday, following reports of gunfire in the area.

When officers arrived they discovered that several shots had been fired into the doorway of a law office in the plaza.

Investigators say surveillance video showed a man getting out of a parked vehicle and firing multiple shots into the business before fleeing in a silver-coloured sedan.

Luckily no one was injured.

On Saturday, officers pulled over a man driving in the area of Burnhamthorpe Road and The East Mall in Toronto. He was taken into custody and arrested in connection to the case.

Qalid Abderrezak, 24, of Toronto, is now facing a slew of charges including attempted murder, extortion, robbery and assault with a weapon.

Police further allege that on August 29, Abderrezak threatened an employee at the business with a firearm.

“This incident has demonstrated that York Regional Police, working together with our community, will not tolerate gun violence,” Chief Eric Jolliffe said in a release.

“Those who choose to bring illegal firearms into York Region and threaten community safety will be found and brought before our courts to be held accountable for their careless actions.”
