Police say man choked cabbie with seatbelt during downtown robbery

By News Staff

Toronto police have released images of a man being sought after a cabbie was allegedly choked with his own seatbelt during a robbery in the downtown core in April.

Police say a taxi driver picked up a fare in the area of Yonge and Wellesley streets on April 21 at around 1:30 a.m.

The man sat behind the driver and wrapped the seatbelt around the driver’s throat, choking him as he attempted to drive, police allege.

Police say the suspect then stole the driver’s wallet before jumping out of the still-moving taxi and running off.
