New Music Friday: Top picks for September 13th

By Lindsay Dunn

Fridays are always a great day for music lovers as not only does it mark the last workday for many in the week, but it’s also the day where most artists release new music. Here is a look at some of the releases out the week of September 13:

Lumineers Pushing Boundaries

You’ve heard their songs from ‘Ho Hey’ to ‘Ophelia’ whether it be on the radio or featured in one of the many TV shows that have picked up their catchy hits. Now the group, based in Denver, Colorado, are releasing their highly anticipated third album aptly titled III. Over the last several months they have been releasing singles with powerful videos leading up to the release. They also dropped 2 EPs that, in the end, were the first half to the final album. The new album may have catchy hooks in songs like “Gloria” but there is a much deeper message. The album talks about addiction and how it not only affects the person but their family and generations to come.

They recently had the world premiere of their short film III that was a ‘visual manifestation’ of their third full-length album. This is one of the most anticipated albums of the week.

“The music came first,’ Wesley Schultz, lead vocalist for the group, told CityNews. ‘To be honest, we didn’t even have the concept for this until we made the record. It just emerged, the characters just emerged.”

Glorious Son’s “A War On Everything”

They are one of Canada’s biggest rock bands in 2019 and not once, but twice have been asked by The Rolling Stones to open for them. If that doesn’t give you ‘street cred’ I don’t know what will. The rockers from Kingston, Ontario have been on an insane tour for the year and will celebrate the release with a hometown show on September 21.

Arcade Fire Celebrates Funeral

Arcade Fire’s Funeral holds up as one of the standout albums of the millennium. This week marks the 15th anniversary of the album that helped launch the Canadian group on the global scale even though the album was made when the group was experiencing extreme turmoil during recording. To mark the anniversary, the band will celebrate its release with never-before-seen live footage, archival pictures from the time of the album’s release.

BONUS TRACK:

It was one of the most talked about songs of the week after they announced the ultimate 90’s reunion punk/grunge tour. Green Day released the song ‘Father of All…” the title track from their upcoming album which is due out in 2020. It has been getting mixed reviews as Billy Joel Armstrong took a bit of a different approach with his vocal styles. Green Day, Weezer and Fall Out Boy will be going on a stadium tour across North America next year.
