Police identify man found shot to death in Etobicoke

A 21-year-old Brampton man was found shot to death in an Etobicoke plaza late Sunday night, say police. Mark Douglas with what homicide detectives are saying about what may have lead up to the deadly incident.

Toronto police have identified a man found shot to death inside a vehicle in Etobicoke on Sunday night.

The body of Amir Naraine, 21, of Toronto, was found in the backseat of a car that was parked at a plaza in the Kipling Avenue and Steeles Avenue West area around 10 p.m.

He was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was initially believed the victim was stabbed, but police later confirmed he was shot. Homicide detectives are investigating.

The victim has been identified as Amir Naraine, 21, of Toronto. Toronto police.

Det. Sgt. Andy Singh said Naraine may have been dead for several hours before he was found by paramedics.

Police said they know there were other people in the car with Naraine before he died but Singh said they don’t know exactly how many people were there or why they didn’t take the victim to hospital after he was shot.

“Leaving somebody behind who could use medical aid and now is since deceased … I think it’s the collective responsibility for everyone in that vehicle to come forward (and) provide information,” Singh said.

Police said Naraine’s family, who live in Brampton, reported him missing around the same time his body was discovered.

Singh said whoever called 911 about the shooting knew about Narine and authorities would like that person to come forward.

No suspect description has been released and no arrests have been made.
