Suspect wanted in Hamilton double murder found dead

The suspect wanted in connection with a double homicide in Hamilton has been found dead and the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked their mandate.

Police say they confirmed early Monday morning, David Thomson, 35, was at a hotel in Brantford.

With assistance from Brantford police, they secured the immediate area around the hotel.

The SIU says while officers were outside, a gunshot was heard coming from inside a room on the first floor. A short time later, Thomson was found dead in his hotel room from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

Hamilton police say they are not looking for any other suspects in connection with the double murder.

The two victims have been identified as Donald Lowe, 62, and Cheryl Nicholl, 32, both of Hamilton.

They were found dead on Saturday night after investigators were called to a townhouse complex on Towercrest Drive by a member of the public to check on the well-being of the residents in the home.

The victims had been shot to death. A post-mortem is expected to be conducted on Monday morning.

The connection between the victims and Thomson, if any, is still unknown at this time.
