Toronto Christmas Market 2019: What’s new this year?

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. From now until Dec. 22, you can eat freshly baked butter tarts and sip on hot cocoa at the Toronto Christmas Market. It’s one of the city’s most highly-anticipated holiday transformations, as the Distillery District turns into a magical, European-inspired market.

This year marks the market’s 10 year anniversary – that’s a decade of munching on delicious European foods, handmade ornaments, and heated beer gardens where you can find holiday favourites like mulled wine. Visit Santa’s workshop, go shopping for speciality holiday trinkets, or just stroll around and enjoy the glowing, picturesque neighbourhood.

Executive Director of the Toronto Christmas Market, Mathew Rosenblatt, says there are a handful of new vendors to get excited about this year. Every year, thousands return for their favourite treats, including the popular Tornado potato sticks, poutine, and the Christmas Waffle Bar.

Vendors:
• Artisan Grilled Cheese
• Eva’s Original Chimneys
Crepes
• Poutine
• Large, soft baked pretzels
• Raclette

The major centrepiece of the market is its Ontario-grown balsam-fir. The 50-foot tree has gone under a major transformation this year, swapping out the classic red and gold colours for a cool blue and silver theme. The tree is covered in more than 30,000 lights, carries more than 800 blubs and ornaments and is wrapped in about 1-kilometre of ribbon.

This year, the Toronto Christmas Market will offer free admission on the first two opening weekends to anyone who brings eight cans of food to donate to the Daily Bread Food Bank. The market will run from Nov. 14 until Dec. 22.
