A 24-year-old man is in police custody after a vehicle crashed into several objects in Richmond Hill overnight, including parked cars and a light pole.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Yonge Street and Arnold Crescent, in the area of Elgin Mills Road and Major Mackenzie Drive, around 2 a.m. Thursday.

Police had received reports of a blue pick-up truck driving on Yonge, hitting light poles and medians.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the damaged pickup truck mounted on a curb on Yonge.

Police said the driver was in the parking lot on Yonge when he drove around the lot and hit five parked cars. The driver then allegedly drove along Yonge and crashed into a traffic light, a street sign and a light pole. Reports from the scene also said the driver also hit a bus shelter.

The driver fled the scene but was later arrested by canine officers.

No injuries were reported.

Joseph Rooney, from Richmond Hill, is facing charges of Dangerous Operation, three counts of Failure to Stop After Accident and two counts of Mischief over $5,000.

Police said alcohol or drug impairment was not considered to be a factor in the crash.

Hydro crews remain on scene to repair the wires that were brought down in the incident. Workers are expected to be there for several hours.
