Passenger in vehicle tased during traffic stop on Hwy. 410 in Brampton

One person is in hospital after they were tased by police during a traffic stop in Brampton.

Peel police stopped the vehicle on the highway between Williams Parkway and Queen Street just before 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police said the passenger in the vehicle and a police officer got into some sort of altercation resulting in the officer tasering the passenger.

The passenger, who has minor injuries, was taken into police custody.

Subsequent investigation resulted in police locating a firearm resulting in charges against the male and female occupants of the car.

The province’s Special Investigation Unit will not be invoking its mandate since the passenger’s injuries are minor.

The northbound lane was closed in the area for the police investigation but has since reopened.
