SIU investigating after man injured in downtown crash

The Special investigation’s Unit has been called into investigate after a car crashed into a pole on Friday just before 8 a.m.
The SIU says police were investigating a vehicle of interest in the area of Jarvis and Gerrard streets when the vehicle made its way southbound on Jarvis and then eastbound on Shuter Street before striking a light standard at the intersection of Shuter and Parliament streets.
Witnesses on scene tell CityNews the vehicle was travelling at a high speed when it crashed.
It’s unclear at this point what led to the crash.
Paramedics transported a 40-year-old man to hospital with a shoulder injury. The SIU says he was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident.
The SIU is called in when police are involved in an incident that results in a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
