Police are on the hunt for three suspects after gunshots rang out on a residential street in Richmond Hill on Tuesday night.

Emergency crews were called to the scene on Kerrybrook Drive, near Major Mackenzie Drive and Yonge Street, around 10 p.m. after reports of an injured man in someone’s backyard.

Police said it appears two vehicles were stopped in the area of Leisure Lane and Richmond Street when some sort of altercation broke out and shots were fired.

According to police, a 39-year-old man who was driving a black Audi claims two to three people got out of the other car and started shooting at him.

The victim drove off, with the suspects following. The victim ended up striking a parked car and fled the area, with two suspects following right behind. Police said the victim found himself in a nearby backyard where a concerned citizen called police.

Police said the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries that were not gunshot related.

No suspect description has been released but police said they are searching for a light-coloured sedan.

Police originally were investigating this as a possible case of road rage but now say it was a targeted shooting.

Officers are asking any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time who have not yet spoken to police to please come forward. Investigators are also looking for any video surveillance from the area or anyone that may have captured dashcam video on the roadways in the area of any of the incidents.
