The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in after a 37-year-old man was injured in a shooting near Scarborough City Centre.

The SIU says police were observing a person of interest in an investigation when several unmarked vehicles attempted a takedown of a red pickup truck in the McCowan Road and Town Centre Court just after 12 p.m. Saturday.

“There was an interaction, and multiple officers discharged their firearms,” said SIU spokesperson Monica Hudon in a statement released late Saturday afternoon.

“The man was struck multiple times. He was transported to hospital for treatment.”

Viewer video provided to CityNews showed several vehicles grouped together on McCowan Road. A paramedic crew is also seen loading a person on a stretcher into an ambulance in the video.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
