A male is dead after fire broke out at a Toronto Community Housing building in Parkdale.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at the 18th floor of a highrise on Dunn Avenue near Queen Street West around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Fire officials say there was a small fire in one of the units which was knocked down quickly. As firefighters went through the apartment they found the person.
Paramedics say the male was pronounced dead at the scene.
However, their injuries did not appear to be fire-related.
The age of the victim has not been released, nor the cause of death.
One resident who lives on the same floor as the victim told CityNews they heard the smoke alarm going off for about 15 minutes in the victim’s apartment unit before the building fire alarm went off.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to investigate.
