Man dies of injuries sustained in Scarborough assault

Homicide is investigating the death of a man following a fight at a Scarborough restaurant on Sunday.

Police were called to the area of Finch Avenue West and Warden Avenue just before 3:30 p.m.

Two men allegedly got into an argument at a restaurant, leading to one of the men assaulting the other, police said.

Police say the victim suffered life-threatening injuries.

Officers who arrived on the scene attempted life-saving measures on the victim but he was pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as Kamalakannan Arasaratnam, 58, of Toronto.

The suspect fled the scene before authorities arrived but police said he was last seen walking northbound from the restaurant on Bridletowne Circle.

He is described as being between 40 to 50 years of age, medium build, wearing a blue winter style jacket, grey pants, and black shoes.

There has been no word on what prompted the altercation or if the victim and the suspect knew each other prior to the assault.
