CityNews has won for Best Local Newscast at the 2020 Canadian Screen Awards in Toronto.
The Canadian Screen Awards are produced by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, a national non-profit professional organization that works to promote the Canadian media sector.
This year’s awards gala was cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic— so the academy opted to have a virtual ceremony online on Monday evening.

Here are two stories the CityNews team covered in 2019.
The St. Michaels College School scandal
Exposing a dark secret at a prestigious all-boys school live on television. Revealing expensive loopholes in the government’s latest budget –from inside the chambers. And taking our weather forecast on the road during a major snowfall that could cripple our city. That’s what you can do when you have no anchors, just reporters, and your news set is your city.
Gunfire reported during 2019 Raptors parade
Your backyard: a place to kickback, relax. Our backyard: Yonge-Dundas Square – and on this day, ground zero for chaos. During a championship celebration, gunmen open fire on the crowd. Simultaneously, two men wielding knives launch an attack in the Eaton Centre. Our reporters, caught in the middle, finding answers on how our city went from celebration to terror in seconds.
Congratulations to the CityNews team!
