By News Staff and The Canadian Press

Ontario reported 326 new cases of novel coronavirus on Sunday, bringing the provincial total to 27,859.

The increase in cases represents a 1.2 per cent growth rate over yesterday’s total, which is the same rate of growth the province had on Saturday.

Nineteen more people have died, bringing the total death count to 2,266.

Of those deaths, 1,438 were in long-term care, Public Health Ontario reports. The Ministry of Long-Term Care reports that 1,642 people who have died were in long-term care – a discrepancy attributed to a lag in reported deaths.

The government reported they were able to complete 17,014 tests. That’s a drop from roughly 20,000 tests completed on Friday.

The province is still testing under its capacity of 25,000 tests per day.

Toronto Public Health reported 150 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday, bringing the total in the city to 11,174. That is an increase of 1.3 per cent over the previous day.

The average number of new cases has continued to decline over the past seven days, going from 218 a week ago down to 163.

For the second straight day, the number of resolved cases exceeded the number of new cases. A total of 8,446 people have recovered from COVID-19.

Five more deaths were recorded bringing the total in the city up to 823.

The number of hospitalizations jumped by 16, the largest double-digit climb in over two weeks
