An 18-year-old woman is dead and two others were seriously injured in a single vehicle crash in Durham Region.

Police say around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday night an SUV was going westbound on Webb Road just east of the York-Durham Townline when the driver lost control, entered a ditch and then struck a tree.

One passenger was ejected from the vehicle while two others had to extricated from the wreck.

Two males and a female were taken to a Toronto trauma centre where the female was pronounced dead.

A 17-year old male is listed in critical but stable condition following surgery while an 18-year-old male suffered less serious injuries.

Police say the investigation is continuing but speed is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash.
