A 41-year-old man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a TTC bus in midtown Toronto.

Police were called to the area of Yonge Street and Heath Street East, just north of St. Clair Avenue, just after 6:30 p.m. Thursday for a report that a pedestrian had been struck by the bus.

In an update on Friday, police said the bus was heading north on Yonge approaching Heath in the curb lane, when the pedestrian who was standing on the sidewalk at a crosswalk walked onto the roadway as the bus passed him.

Police said he was “struck near the rear tire area of the bus.” The TTC had said that the pedestrian had come into contact with one of their shuttle buses.

The bus driver stopped his vehicle and remained at the scene.

Correction: Paramedics initially said they transported a 25-year-old man to hospital. The story above has since been updated.
