A 45-year-old Toronto teacher is accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl.
Police say the man and the girl spoke in-person and over the phone between January and June.
They allege the sexual assault took place at some point during that six-month period.
The man, identified as Colin Ramsay, is facing two counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual exploitation and luring a child.
They say Ramsay has been a teacher at George Vanier Secondary School since 2007.
In a letter to parents obtained by CityNews, the school’s principal said the man was placed on home assignment as soon as they heard the news of the allegations.
“While it is important to remember that laying criminal charges does not constitute guilt and that a person is innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law, we also cannot and do not take these allegations lightly,” said Tamara Grealis, the school’s principal. “The safety out of students is a top priority and we are committed to enforcing policies about their well-being.”
Grealis added that support for students is available for those who feel they need it.
Ramsay is scheduled to appear in court on September 17, 2020.
