Durham police were searching ponds and dense brush in Whitby on Thursday as part of the ongoing investigation into the brutal attack of a 50-year-old woman last week.
Police tweeted photos of officers in hip-waders in a pond as well as searching through the brush looking for clues in the case.
Officers found the woman near a creek in the area of Taunton Road East and Anderson Street just before 10 a.m.
The woman had been reported missing late Tuesday night after going for a walk in the area. Police had searched for her overnight using a K-9 team before she was found with multiple serious injuries.

Earlier this week, investigators released security video (below) showing a man walking behind the woman on a sidewalk on Taunton Road near Anderson Street last Tuesday night — the same night she was attacked.
He’s being called a person of interest.
The victim remains in hospital in critical condition.
