The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a 24-year-old woman was injured in a single-vehicle crash in St. James Town early Friday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Bloor Street East and Parliament Street just after 3 a.m.

Toronto police said officers in the area were responding to the sounds of gunshots.

According to the SIU, officers spotted a vehicle of interest near Sherbourne Street and began to follow it along Bloor, trying to get the vehicle to stop.

The SIU said the driver did not stop and the vehicle left the roadway at Bloor and Parliament, and collided with a guardrail.

The woman sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital.
