Two people – 17 years old and 20 years old – were seriously injured in a drive-by shooting in Scarborough on Thursday night.

Police responded to reports of someone being shot near a bar or restaurant in the Danforth Road and Savarin Street area shortly before 10 p.m.

Officers arrived on scene and initially found one victim with serious injuries. A second victim was located shortly after and both were taken to hospital in serious condition via emergency run. They are expected to survive.

Const. Dave Rydzik said due to the increase in shootings in the area, at least eight in the last month, there was a heavy police presence last night.

Rydzik said because of this, officers heard the shots and were able to respond to the scene quickly before calls from the public started to come in.

They were able to identify a suspect vehicle that was fleeing the area and after a pursuit to Highway 401, the car lost control and was stopped by police.

Two loaded firearms were recovered in the vehicle and three suspects, all under the age of 18, were arrested.

They are each facing multiple charges each that range from attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons charges.

Rydzik said they are looking to see whether last night’s shooting is connected to any of the previous shooting incidents.

“We will leave no stone unturned in trying to get to the bottom of what’s going on here,” said Rydzik.

Rydzik added the young age of the suspects is “very concerning.”
