A 53-year-old woman is recovering in hospital after she was shot in North York on Tuesday night.

Police were called to the area of Jane Street and Wilson Avenue around 10:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a drive-by shooting.

When officers arrived they found a woman with a gunshot wound.

Bullet holes were found in a car and shell casings were also found at the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries, police said. Her injuries are now not considered to be serious.

Dep.-Insp. Mandeep Mann said it is believed the woman was travelling in a vehicle with her adult son.

Mann said they were heading south on Jane, when just before they reached the intersection at Fingrove Crescent suspects in a dark-coloured sedan opened fire. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene.
