York police seek suspect in string of alleged hate-motivated incidents

York regional police have released photos of a suspect they’re seeking in connection to a string of alleged hate-motivated incidents in Vaughan.

On September 18, police say a man was driving in the New Westminster Drive and Steeles Avenue area when a man he didn’t know began yelling anti-Semitic remarks at him. Police say when the driver began recording the incident, the suspect approached the vehicle and tried to assault him.

Police believe the same man is responsible for half-a-dozen incidents that followed. In some cases graffiti was written on garage doors and vehicle on Mullen Drive.

“Investigators believe that the graffiti is hate-motivated. It references both the Black and Jewish communities,” police said.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Kurt Edwards, 43, of no fixed address.
