A popular tourist attraction in Toronto has confirmed two employees recently tested positive for COVID-19, in what they are calling isolated incidents.

A spokesperson for Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada tells 680 NEWS the cases were in different areas of the aquarium operations and that both team members are part-time employees.

“The first case was reported on September 22. The second case was reported on September 28,” the spokesperson said.

“In both instances, we immediately contacted Toronto Public Health and followed their instructions taking all necessary precautions. As per Toronto Public Health, we completed a deep clean of affected areas and notified all team members who may have been in close contact with the individuals who are COVID-positive.”

The aquarium says they kept its retail store closed for six days after receiving news of the infections.

“The safety of our team members and guests is our top priority and we are taking all precautionary measures to reduce any risk of exposure and have always, and will continue to follow, the guidance of Toronto Public Health,” they added.

The facility says it is only accepting 15 per cent of its normal visitor volume and stopped all on-site performances, also closing a play area for children.

All visitors and staff must wear masks at all times while they are inside the aquarium.
