Five Quebecers arrested in connection with suspected kidnapping of New York couple

MONTREAL — Five Quebecers were arrested late Tuesday in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a couple in their 70s from New York.

James Helm Jr. and Sandra Helm were found safe in Magog, in Quebec’s Eastern Townships region at around 5 p.m.

Quebec provincial police say the suspects are all from the province and range in age from 36 to 75.

They are expected to appear in court later today to face charges that could include forcible confinement.

The couple from Moira, N.Y., had last been seen Sunday evening.

The FBI, RCMP, New York State police and the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service all participated in the investigation into the disappearance.
