A new poll finds most Ontarians don’t want to head back to the polls before the scheduled provincial vote in 2022.
It comes as MPPs get set to debate a Liberal motion, designed to prevent Premier Doug Ford from calling a snap election.
The Toronto Star revealed that Ford’s Conservatives fast-tracked nominations last month, prompting concerns, the party might call an election before the pandemic-induced recession worsens.
But 51 per cent of respondents to the “campaign research” survey say the parties should stop wasting time on this and focus on the pandemic. 13 per cent said they don’t believe the premier, who has insisted the next vote will be June 2nd, 2022.
Liberals say the largely symbolic motion up for discussion at Queen’s Park Monday is aimed at making sure the conservatives aren’t focused on political activity during the second wave of the pandemic.
