Two women are dead following a head-on crash in Mississauga.

Peel police say the crash occurred on McLaughlin Road on the overpass across Highway 407 shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday.

Paramedics say two adults were pronounced dead at the scene while four others were taken to a trauma centre in serious condition. Two other people were taken to a local hospital.

Police say one woman from each vehicle was killed, however, they have not released any names or ages of the victims. Four other occupants of one car and two others in the second car were hospitalized.

Factors such as speed and the morning sunlight are being considered when it comes to determining the reasons behind the fatal crash.

One local resident says speeding in the area has become a problem of late.

“I’ve been living here since 2008 and this area – within the last five years – has really truly changed. It used to be very quiet, now its become a race track,” said Izabela Choina, who adds that recent road construction has made the situation even worse.

“People over here, they’re speeding, they’re gunning it, they’re doing well over the speed limit – I’m talking about double the speed limit here.”

“Whether its daytime or nighttime, the last couple of months it’s become the Indy 500.”
