Clean-up is underway after a member of the public reported the spill of an oil-like substance in the Credit River in Mississauga.

Mississauga Councilor Stephen Dasko says the spill has been traced to two oil drums off Wolfedale Road. It was reported on Thursday evening.

The Credit Valley Conservation says they are working with organizations leading the spill response including Peel Region and the City of Mississauga.

They are working on reducing the potential environmental impacts of the spill, but say it’s too early to determine the impact the spill will have on the aquatic habitat and local fish populations.

Dasko says Animal Control has also been alerted to look after any wildlife that may have been affected.
