Ontario’s COVID-19 cases surge to new record

Ontario is reporting 1,050 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday — a new high in the province.

Toronto remains the hotspot with 408 new cases, followed by Peel Region (212), Halton Region (86), York Region (76), and Durham Region (57).

The province said it conducted nearly 25,300 tests in the previous day.

Fourteen more people have died, bringing the death toll in Ontario to 3,166. The majority of those deaths (2,024) were people living in long-term care homes.

The previous daily high in Ontario was back on Oct. 25 with 1,042 cases.

The province recorded 948 cases on Monday.
