Ontario breaks another record high in new COVID-19 cases, Peel seeing highest uptick

Ontario is reporting another record-breaking number with 1,426 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, and 15 deaths.
On Tuesday, the province reported 1,388 new cases of COVID-19, and 15 deaths.
Wednesday’s case count is a 2.7 per cent increase compared to the day before.
There’s 886 more resolved cases, a 13.4 per cent jump compared to Tuesday.
Over the past seven days, Ontario has an average of 1216.7 new cases a day, and an average of 873.4 resolved cases.
36,707 tests have been completed, and of those, 5.1 per cent have tested positive for the virus. That per cent positivity has gone down 0.6 per cent compared to Tuesday.
As of Wednesday, there are 10,631 active cases in the province, 424 of those cases are in hospital, and 88 are in the ICU.
Peel is seeing the highest number of new cases on Wednesday with 468, up from 395 the day before.
York Region is also seeing an uptick with 180 new cases, up from 100 on Tuesday. Durham sees 63 new cases, up from 36, Hamilton is seeing an increase from 35 to 62 new cases, and Ottawa is seeing an additional five cases with 28.

Toronto, usually the leading hotspot in new cases, is seeing a drop in cases with 384 on Wednesday, compared to 520 the day before, and Halton sees a decline from 72 cases to 30.
The province’s schools are seeing more new cases with 198, up from the 159 reported on Tuesday.
Of those cases, 116 are linked to students, 21 to staff, and 61 are unidentified.

There is a total of 88,209 confirmed cases in Ontario reported to date.
