Toronto police say they have charged a man in connection to the deadly stabbing of a 31-year-old woman in the city’s Christie Pits neighbourhood.

On Wednesday at around 5 p.m., police said they were called to the Bloor Street West and Shaw Street area for a report of an altercation.

Investigators allege two people got into an argument which ended with the woman being stabbed by a man.

When officers arrived, they said they found a woman without vital signs. Paramedics tried to save her life but she pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have identified the victim as Tigist Takle, 31, of Toronto.

One man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Thursday, police said they charged Samuel Girmatsion, 36, of Toronto with one-count of first-degree murder.

He appeared in court on Thursday.

Police said this is the city’s 64th homicide of 2020.
