The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating after a 23-year-old man was shot during a confrontation with police overnight in Vaughan.
Around 12:30 a.m. Monday, York regional police officers attempted to stop a car on Highway 7 at Creditstone Stone, but the car sped off.
Officers found the car a short distance away and shots were fired.
The man suffered serious to life-threatening injuries. Police say he is now in stable condition.
No further injuries were reported.
The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or an allegation of sexual assault.
