Charges upgraded after boy, 11, struck by truck in Hamilton dies

An 11-year-old boy who was struck by a pickup truck while crossing a Hamilton street with a crossing guard has died in hospital, Hamilton police confirm.
Police say a 28-year-old man was driving a Dodge RAM pickup truck southbound on Upper Gage on Monday at around 3:20 p.m. and failed to stop for both the traffic light and the crossing guard, striking the boy.
The child was rushed to hospital with life-threatened injuries. Police confirmed that he died on Thursday.
Family, and the boy’s school, identify him as Jude Strickland.
“Our thoughts are with his family at this time,” Hamilton police tweeted.

The driver, Brandon Aubert of Hamilton, remained on scene and was initially charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
Police say those charges have now been upgraded to dangerous operation causing death.
It’s the 14th traffic fatality in Hamilton this year.
