Ontario reports almost 1,900 new COVID-19 cases, 28 more deaths on Wednesday

Ontario is reporting 1,890 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, a rise from the 1,676 cases the previous day.

However, for the first time in two weeks, the number of resolved cases (1,924) outpaced the number of new infections.

Most of the new cases are in Toronto with 517, followed by Peel Region with 471, while York Region reported 187 new infections.

Another 28 people have died from the virus, bringing the provincial total to 3,836.

Provincial health officials say they completed 48,546 tests in the previous 24-hour period. There are more than 54,600 tests which still need to be processed.

Hospitalizations surged past 800 and there are now 221 patients in the ICU.
