Driver injured in police pursuit in Brampton, SIU investigating

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating a crash in Brampton that sent a 33-year-old man to hospital by air ambulance.

The incident began when a witnesses called police about an erratic, possibly intoxicated driver on Rutherford Road South.

According to police, officers found the van, which they said was stolen, and a pursuit began.

The police cruiser made contact with the van in the Church Street and Kennedy Road area but the vehicle kept going and the pursuit continued.

The van then turned on to Williams Parkway.

According to the SIU the van then hit another police car, mounted and crossed over the grassy median, and crashed into the concrete barriers that line the road.

The driver of the van was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in critical condition.

Police said no officers were injured in the pursuit and no other vehicles were damaged.
