Extended lockdowns will put ‘thousands’ out of business: Canadian Federation Of Independent Business

By Richard Southern

News that the lockdown for Toronto and Peel will extend beyond Monday, and the possibility of even stricter measures next week, is not going over well with small business owners.

Ryan Mallough with the Canadian Federation Of Independent Business says it will mean retailers in the regions missing out on Boxing Day

“Bluntly, that’s going to mean the permanent closure of thousands of retailers in the region. To lose the entire season after the year it’s been is absolutely devastating news for small retailers.”

Sources tell 680 NEWS the government is considering a possible southern Ontario lockdown for a period of time after Boxing Day, a prospect Mallough finds concerning.

“To start 2021 in a lockdown situation is not where anyone wants to be. I spare a thought for the gym owners who usually see a bit of a rush come January first with all the new years resolution folks.”
