The Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a suspect was injured in an interaction with police in the area of Richmond Street and Sherbourne Street.

Police were called to the scene just after 3 a.m. on Wednesday morning, for reports of someone damaging cars.

When they arrived, they found the man armed with a knife.

There was an interaction — the man was tasered more than once, but that had no effect, and he was later shot with rubber bullets.

The man was taken to hospital with serious, but not-life-threatening injuries.

Richmond is closed from Ontario Street to George Street for the investigation.
