Garbage truck hits several cars, hydro pole on Dixon Road

Police are investigating after a garbage truck crashed into several cars and hit a hydro pole Friday morning.

Just after 7 a.m. emergency crews were called to the scene near Royal York Road.

It appears the driver of the garbage truck, for an unknown reason, lost control of the vehicle.

The truck then mounted the curb and drove across the lawns of several homes lining the street, striking several vehicles that had been parked in driveways.

The truck then hit several trees, and knocked down a hydro pole before eventually stopping about 80 metres down the road.

Toronto police say the road was icy at the time of the crash.

The crash caused wires to come down in the area.

Only minor injuries have been reported.

Dixon was closed for several hours from Royal York Road and Kentroyal Drive.

Police say salters were bring brought in to deice the area.
